The Week Begins

Last week has ended and a new one begins, but with this week is my return to more regular posts as I’m adding a new weekly post “The Week Begins.” I know, not the greatest title in the world but I’m trying to keep a theme here of Ending and Beginning. It kind of works with the whole Age in New Age Comics. So yeah, what is The Week Begins? I take a look at the books in my box this week and comment on them BEFORE I get my hands on them. This is basically what I was doing at the end of Week’s End with Most Anticipated Comic of the Week, but rather I’m covering all the books instead of the one I’m most excited for. Though there still will be a “Most Anticipated” in every edition of The Week Begins.

That being said, now that we’ve got all the formalities out of the way let the Week Begin!

Final Crisis #6

Written: Grant Morrison

Art: J.G. Jones and Carlos Pacheco

If this issue isn’t in the shop when I get around then I won’t be picking it up. The only interest I have here is the final fate of Batman and while I’ll no doubt just read some online spoilers, Batman is important to me so I want to see how he goes down. I’m glad they gave Pacheco the go as artist as I really love his stuff, so hopefully he can impress me as I’ve never been a big fan of Jones’ work.

Witchblade #123

Written: Ron Marz

Art: Stjepan Sejic

To be honest, this story arc has overstayed it’s welcome. While it’s given us some echoes of War of the Witchblade which starts soon, I’m far more interested in that then what we’re getting right now. This storyline has been nice and I like Marz’ use of a deeply urban setting here but it’s just not doing much for me. Still, I hope we get a continuation of the Dani/Finch moment last time and I’m hoping Gleason makes it through this arc, there have been some hints he may bite the dust soon.

Invincible #58 *Most Anticipated of the Week*

Written: Robert Kirkman

Art: Ryan Ottley

I’m very interested in this storyline, I haven’t even picked up #57 yet but I can gladly say I’ll pick this issue up first if I have to chose seeing as it touches on the Invincible/Atom Eve relationship fully now. We’ve seen it here and there throughout the last few issues, we’ve seen them go from fun dating, to serious dating, to sex. Where do we go now? I’m not so sure. I hope we see a true advancing of things other then cute couple moments which could grow old if they hold an entire issue. Still, really looking forward to this issue and the future of the series.

So there you have it, a bit of a short week to start out on I know and no Marvel books and I’m not even sure if I’ll actually be getting Final Crisis. But still I figured it’s better to start soon rather then waiting around for a bigger week to open it.

I too am grabbing FINAL CRISIS for the Batman tie-in only and no other reason.

Invincible is also my most anticipated book though I am also checking at GI Joe #1 from IDW and very interested to see that one as well.

I've been hearing a lot about IDW's GI Joe. IDW is a great company and they've been doing great with the Transformers, if I hear good things I'll check this book out.
