The Week Begins

So a pretty big week as far as some cool new series' ongoing and mini.

Batman: Battle for the Cowl #2

Written and Art: Tony Daniel

I was at the comic shop the other day and was considering adding this to the pull list. It looks great from the preview, Jason Todd actually makes for a badass Batman and his dialogue was solid and the art looked incredible. But I figure if I’m going to buy this series and it’s any good, I’d rather wait for the collection.

TimeStorm: 2009/2099 #1

Written: Brian Reed

Art: Eric Battle

With the delay in the third issue I’m not so sure about this anymore. Reed is a good writer, not my favorite but he can certainly pull off some great stuff when he wants to. The art looks great, and growing up as a child of the 90’s, I love the 2099 stories. We’ve been promised a lot of things that look great, mostly the new Punisher and Ghost Rider 2099 is making a comeback. Ghost Rider was definitely the most overlooked of all the characters in 2099 so I hope Reed can handle him well as he was my favorite of all the 2099 heroes. Though I’m just not sure, from a recent interview he did it doesn’t really sound like Reed himself is really all that into it or cares about these characters so I can’t help but be worried, but the 90’s fan in me tells me to shut up and look forward to it, which I am.

Wolverine: Weapon X #1 *Most Anticipated*

Written: Jason Aaron

Art: Ron Garney

So this looks pretty good, though I’m confused as to why this looks so good yet Garney’s art degenerated so much on Skaar. It could be how he works with different writers but if that’s it, then it’s certainly odd. Still, this is the team that brought us Get Mystique, an absolutely incredibly cool storyline that blew me away and reminded me why I love the two characters of Wolverine and Mystique. Though now Aaron is in charge of his own series, how exciting. The storyline itself doesn’t sound too mind blowing, just like Get Mystique, a fairly simple concept that will no doubt be given brilliant moment after moment. I also like how Wolverine will be wearing his X-force duds and from the looks of it will be completely solo here with no other X-characters involved. Should be a great read.

Marvel Zombies 4 #1

Written: Fred Van Lente

Art: Kev Walker

So I decided not to pick this up. Yeah…I guess I’m just tired of the zombies. All my memories of Marvel Zombies 3 prove that this should be a good read, since it continues from there, but I’m just going to get the HC of this in a few months. Also this isn’t Marvel Zombies, the whole key point to that was that the zombies are super heroes zombified whereas here it’s just super heroes fighting zombies. Not very original, or close to the Marvel Zombies formula. It should have been called Midnight Sons but I guess Marvel didn’t figure that would make as much money which is a shame.

You are killing me with Battle for the Cowl :-O

I bet Wolverine is good because of two things (1) Jason (2) Aaron - 'nuff said
